A career in information technology will include different subjects. The individual must decide which part of technology they will want to specialize in. A person may want to develop technology, maintain a database, or be able to fix codes that are needed to build a website. There are multiple fields to information technology (Using Technology to Increase Your Business, 2016).
Once the individual has picked their field in information technology, the technician will need to learn the common areas of technology. There is not a standardized baseline to technology (Wlodarz, 2011). After the person learns the basics, certifications will be next. Each certification will take the person to the next level. Certifications will make the person more proficient in their skills. Employers will want an individual that has the knowledge to go with their experience. Certifications may allow for a person to gain a higher salary (Queenstreet Inc., 2016). Trial and error may be used until a person gains enough knowledge to be able to correct the issue in the future without error (Wloadrz, 2011).
Technology is everywhere that you look. Without the skill to build, fix, and maintain technology, technology may cease to increase.
There are several certifications available. Different colleges will offer different courses for their degree. Here are a few examples of certifications that are available (Dallas Community College District, 2016):
- Convergence technology Intern certificate
- Information security certificate
- Networking associate certificate
- SQL server certificate
- UNIX administrator/Cloud computing
- .NET Programming
- Visual studio developer certificate
- Web development certificate
